What Is CBN and How Does It Differ From CBD?

PAGE QUICK LINKS

Cannabinol has been rapidly growing in popularity lately and is often  referred to as an exciting new alternative medicine. But what is CBN, and how does it differ from the popular cannabinoid; CBD?

We will cover everything you need to know about CBN in this blog post. So let’s dive right in.

What is CBN?

There are a lot of potent cannabinoids in the marijuana plant, one of those being Cannabinol also referred to as CBN. It is often found alongside compounds such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but unlike THC, CBN is non-intoxicating meaning it only contains minimal psychoactive effects.

Instead, CBN has been potentially shown to alleviate anxiety and has gained lots of attention for its potential therapeutic properties. CBN forms after the cannabis plant has been harvested, and the THC has been exposed to a specific amount of light or heat for a prolonged period of time.

What’s the Difference Between CBN and CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis, meaning it does not cause a “high”. It is derived from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of marijuana. Cannabinol (CBN) differs as it is considered to house minimal amounts of psychoactive effects.

Both CBD and CBN affect the endocannabinoid system, this system is heavily involved in functions of the body that regulate appetite and pain. CBN has been found to be potentially sedative, calming the individual and relieving stress and anxiety, while CBD has been shown to not have sedative qualities.

The Potential Benefits

Research conducted on Cannabinol (CBN) is still early, and there are no definite uses found for the cannabinoid. What the data has shown so far is a list of potential benefits that may be experienced when using CBN. Some benefits may include:

  • Pain Relief
  • Fighting Inflammation
  • Inducing Sleep
  • Helping ADHD
  • Anti-Bacterial
  • Sedative Effect
  • Antibiotic
  • Bone Growth Stimulation
  • Appetite Growth

More research is needed before more conclusive benefits can be found, but as of right now, CBN seems to be potentially very beneficial to people who need a sedative medicine that can help them sleep or relieve pain.

How To Use

There are many different ways you can take, apply, or use Cannabinol and the method of application can depend on whether it’s an oil, cream, or tablet.

If you would like to potentially support arthritis relief, or maybe prevent inflammatory skin issues, then it’s recommended you apply a small amount of CBN directly onto the affected area of the skin.

You may also apply the oil directly under your tongue for roughly 20 seconds before then swallowing it. Typically you should limit the amount of oil you use to around 5mg, ensure you check how much your dropper holds to accurately provide yourself the dosage. In some cases, CBN may come in tablet form, in that case, you should follow the instructions provided on the packaging.
